Tell HN: iOS Devs, do not update to macOS Sequoia, Xcode 16 isnt live yet
I just made the mistake of updating to macOS Sequoia, only to discover that my installed version of Xcode 15 does not open, and there is no path to update to Xcode 16.
This due to the new OS version not supporting old Xcode versions (normal), but also that there is no update currently in the Mac App store to install Xcode 16.
Going to the official Xcode site only links you back to the Mac App Store, with the aforementioned lack of updates.
The net result is there is no Xcode that works on macOS Sequoia barring one of the beta/RCs of Xcode 16
I am new to the Mac ecosystem, and I am in the middle of learning SwiftUI by writing my first macOS app. I had no idea that Xcode was tied to the OS release and was a bit surprised that I could no longer open my project after the update. I could download the RC, but I am not in a rush, just a little shocked that the new Xcode is not available the same time as the new release if the old version will not work on it. I mostly bought my Mac because I need the Adobe Products for some of my workflows. Linux is my usual daily driver but writing SwiftUI caught my attention and I have been enjoying it until now.
That's pretty much par for the course.
Good idea to wait until Xcode 16 comes out.
In the past, I have used the betas, but I have a couple of apps shipping, now, and don't want to be stuck not being able to put out fixes.
Should also mention that if you update your phone/iPad/TV/Watch, Xcode 15 won't be able to run stuff on them.
Just checked: on developer.apple.com in the downoad section, there is, under applications, XCode 16.
In the developer section (developer.apple.com) Xcode 16 s available.
I saw that, but I receive a 403 forbidden response when I hit the link in all browsers.
It appears that the update is now available in the store.
